I agree with 88 as being the right answer based on the way I was taught math. There are no parenthesis to determine what order the operations are to be done. So the operations are to be done sequentially from left to right. But the new FAKE math being used today by the complete idiots that have no clue how to even multiply or divide, could possibly come up with 38 instead.
 
The golden rule has been broken. Whatever is done to one side of an equation must be done to the other side of the equation. So 16-36=16-36 or 25-45=25-45 would have been legal. But you'll notice no steps were given to show how 16-36=25-45 was arrived at. I'll be willing to bet real money that you can not arrive at 16-36=25-45 without breaking the golden rule.
